Fuel tank heating
Tank preheater is designed for heating of diesel at the fuel intake, when normal intake of fuel is difficult or impossible.
Tank preheaters are produced as tips from aluminium alloy, which are installed on the suction part of the regular fuel intake. Tank preheater also contains an integrated slotted strainer.
Preheating is carried out within 3 to 5 minutes, depending on the initial temperature of diesel.
Tank heater usually operates as a preheater (short-term heating – electrically powered from battery), but it can also be used as engine heater during movement (long-term heating – powered by generator).

Heated fuel intakes are designed for intake of diesel fuel from the tank within a wide temperature range, including very low temperatures up to -40°С, when intake of frozen fuel by regular intake system of the vehicle is impossible. Preheating of diesel fuel and slotted strainer is carried out by means of the electric heater, powered from the battery (on-board power system) of the vehicle. Sustainer heating of fuel during engine operation is carried out by warm fuel of the return flow in ТП-101 (102), and also by means of warm antifreeze liquid of the engine coolant system in ТП-201 (202) and ТП-301 (302). Liquid heating saves energy and battery life, depending on the temperature conditions and the model of the heated fuel intake, as a rule, it provides fuel flow through all the fuel line. At very low temperatures simultaneous electric and liquid heating is possible.
Heated fuel intakes have a manual heating operation, and they can also be connected to automatic heating system СПА-101 (201). In case of manual operation, power switch with indication is installed in the cabin within a driver's reach. To turn the heater on, press the switch button.
- Fuel intake consists of a slotted strainer, vibration-proof, fire- and explosion-proof electric heater for preheating of slotted filter and fuel, a surface tape liquid flow heater of the fuel by warm return flow or hot cooling water, a flange with a collector and fittings for input and output of liquid media, fitting for a cable;
- Fuel intake is designed for intake of diesel fuel at temperatures from -40°С to +45°С;
- Power for electric heater is 12 V or 24 V and it remains active at power switch from 70 to 130 % from nominal power;
- Heating time of slotted filter and fuel in a fuel intake by electric heater during start up, till the temperature of melting of paraffins is reached, is 5-10 minutes;
- If the temperature of the hot cooling water at the fuel intake input is more than +60°С, this provides heating of diesel to 30°С at low temperatures in a tank;
- Design of the fuel intake depends on the operating mode S1, on installation place and operating conditions – group Ж in accordance with ГОСТ 3940, climatic design ХЛ2 in accordance with ГОСТ 15150 at temperatures from -40°С to +45 °С;
- Class of protection of the fuel intake surface which contacts with fuel inside the fuel tank, is IP68, and outside the fuel tank (external part) is IP67 in accordance with ГОСТ 14254;
- Average mean time to failure is 3000 hours, average operating life is 5 years, average storage life is 2 years since production and packing.
